The court is located near Brooklyn Borough Hall, in the civic center of downtown Brooklyn.

Hours

Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

The court is closed on weekends, federal holidays, and New York State holidays.

Arrive early. The court can be very busy, especially in the morning. If you need to file documents or speak with a clerk, arrive before 10:00 AM to avoid the longest lines.

When calling, have your file number ready if you have one. Clerks can answer general questions about procedures and forms, but they cannot provide legal advice.

How to Get There

By Subway

  • 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 to Borough Hall — exit and walk south on Court Street to Johnson Street.
  • A / C / F to Jay St–MetroTech — exit and walk west on Willoughby Street to Johnson Street.
  • R to Court Street — exit and walk south one block.

By Bus

Several bus lines stop near Borough Hall, including the B25, B26, B38, B41, B45, B52, B57, B61, B63, B65, and B67.

By Car

Parking in downtown Brooklyn is limited and expensive. Public transportation is recommended when possible. If you must drive, there are public parking garages near Livingston Street and Boerum Place.

What to Bring to Court

  • Photo ID (driver's license, passport)
  • Your file number (if you have one)
  • All relevant original documents
  • Copies of any documents you need to file
  • A certified check or money order for court fees (they do not accept cash for all transactions)

Tips for Your Visit

  • Security: You will need to go through a security checkpoint when entering the building. Leave any prohibited items at home.
  • Patience: The court handles a high volume of cases. Expect wait times, especially if you do not have a scheduled appointment.
  • Forms: Bring your forms already filled out if possible. Forms are available in our forms directory.
  • Extra copies: Always bring at least one extra copy of everything you file. The court will retain originals in many cases.
